TABLE TALK – On Sunday, October 11, we will begin
a book discussion series that will meet after Mass on
2nd and 4th Sundays from 12:00 to 1:00 o’clock.
We will begin with Abraham Heschel’s God in Search of Man, which The Boston Globe called, “One of the most compelling books about being human that has been written in this [the 20th] century.” Time Magazine wrote, “Prose that sings and soars in the warm, intuitive tradition of the great 18th-century Hasidic leaders from whom [Heschel] is descended. . . . God in Search of Man is subtitled ‘A Philosophy of Judaism,’ but it speaks to all those for whom the Bible is a holy book.” Participants are asked to purchase a copy of the book for themselves from whatever source they will. It’s a paperback book that retails for $18.00 but cheaper copies (and used ones) can often be found. We will read approximately 35-45 pages for each session, so preparation should not be overly demanding. Read chapters 1-4 for the first session. A full schedule of readings will be handed out at the first session. |
